Project 1124 Albatros-class Anti-submarine Corvette

by Tim Wing

The Albatros-class (UEDF reporting name: Grisha) was a series of small anti-submarine corvettes built by the Soviet Union between 1970 and 1990. All Albatros-class ships were around 70 meters long with a displacement in the 1,000-ton range. These ships had a limited range and were used only in coastal waters. They were equipped with a variety of ASW weapons and an SA-N-4 surface-to-air missile launcher. The Albatros-class was the mainstay of Soviet coastal anti-submarine warfare until the end of the First Robotech War. After the war, the Albatros-class was slowly phased out in favor of newer boats. Those Albatros-class boats that did survive the war were eventually transferred to the Cuban Navy.
