The MBR-12 Valiant was a non-variable development of Maxwell Dynamic’s VF/A-6 Alpha Veritech with the Shinnakasu Heavy Industry AFC-2 Armored Fighter Component system. The Valiant kept the legs and arms from the Alpha series of fighters, but switched to a simplified torso based on the AFC-2’s armor package. Since the design shed weight in regards to the transformation equipment, this enabled Maxwell and Shinnakasu to add increased armor and reaction mass (lack of reaction mass being a chronic shortcoming of the Alpha). Lastly, the Valiant had a set of four powerful plasm-shock expansion engines which made the Valiant fully flight capable in an Earth like environment. These larger engines necessitated a redesign of the lower half of the Alpha derived legs.
Though inexpensive, relative to Veritech fighters, the Valiant was still expensive in comparison to other Destroids. Furthermore, its role overlapped with those of the TFR-20 Golem Tactical Fighter Robot and more conventional surface oriented Destroids. It did not have the same level of aerospace-flight performance as the Golem, nor did it have anywhere near the level of armor or armament as more conventional Destroids. Because of this neither-nor position, the Valiant found itself to be a bit of an orphan. The Valiant served with the UEEF Marine Corps as an air mobile fast attack Destroid, though it was eventually replaced in this role by the ISB-02 Golem II. It eventually found its niche as a space defense robot which could operate further away from the capital ship it was to protect than could the more traditional space based Destroids. Its success in this role inspired the creation of the NA-1 Jackal and NA-5 Cougars, which were to be its eventual replacements.
