The MiG-33 (UEDF Reporting Name: Fineline) was the first fighter to emerge out of the post Robotech War Eastern Block Soviet Independent States (EBSIS). Designed as a trans-atmospheric fighter/interceptor, the Fineline could reach low Earth orbit under its own power, or could be boosted into high Earth orbit on top the tried but true R-7 launch vehicle (the R-7 is the same launch vehicle that carries the Soyez orbital vehicle into
space). The Fineline utilized a lifting body design with rather rudimentary control surfaces. By the time of the Invid invasion, the MiG-33 could still be found in limited numbers in the Soviet Air Defense Force, where they served as on-standby rapid deployment interceptors. For this reason, Finelines were among the first Earth forces to make contact with the Invid.
