The Bossu was a Karbarran produced Invid, all-weather general-purpose power armor. It was perhaps the strangest of all these mecha in that the torso was of Karbarran design and manufacture, while the arms and legs were produced by the Invid. This strange hybrid came about during the Invid occupation of Karbarra, when the Invid had issues with their Malar power armors being assaulted and overpowered by rioting Karbarrans. With the average Karbarran being around 300 kilograms, they handily outweighed the Invid Malar power armor by a significant margin. With this in mind, the local Invid governor decided a heavier power armor was needed for the purpose of keeping the peace in situations where non-lethal force was required.
Forcing local industry to produce mecha for the Invid occupation force was nothing new at this point, but why the Invid insisted on providing the arms, legs and weapons fit for this particular mecha is unknown. As one might expect, there were significant integration problems which caused the Bossu to be less than reliable. Less than three hundred of these units were produced before they were succeeded by a heavy power armor completely of Invid design and manufacture.
The Bossu was almost a meter taller than the Malar, and almost twice the weight. The center, Karbarran manufactured, section provided just enough room for a higher caste Invid to squeeze into with his head tucked between his shoulders and his legs pulled up to his chest. For this reason, it was more of a small robot and less of a proper “power armor”. The head and sensor suite were also of Karbarran design, and lacked the protoculture sensing systems found in other Invid mecha. This is perhaps the most unique feature of the armor. All other mecha produced for the Invid by the Karbarrans were fitted with Invid avionics.
